Coles has just announced an urgent recall for their "Nature's Kitchen" vegan pizza range. Unfortunately, their media release and recall notice does not provide much detail, other than to say that it was incorrectly labelled as vegan and it contains dairy.
What we don't know is what exactly does that mean. Are they being overly cautious about manufacturing processes? Has the product actually never been vegan after all? Is this a current situation that has just recently occurred or has this issue been present since the product first launched?
We have spoken directly to the Coles Media Team and have put the above questions to them. They will be getting back to us as soon as possible with answers. Our Coles Media contact could not guarantee that they can get those answers tonight, but as soon as we get a response from them, we will of course get that information out to everyone straight away, regardless of the time or day.
In the mean time, if you currently have one of these pizzas, you should return it to your nearest Coles for a refund. if you are concerned that you may have been inadvertently consuming animal ingredients by consuming these products, I also share that concern as I have personally consumed many of these pizzas. At this stage, until we get more details, my advice to everyone is do not stress about it from a vegan perspective. Let's get the full facts about what exactly has occurred first.
We have already had well over 300 messages and support tickets lodged with our in app help desk about this in the past hour, so please be patient as we have to respond to each message and support ticket individually.
*Please note that the Coles Customer Service team at this stage will not be able to provide any more details than what was in the recall notice.
